Our Mission

The mission of the Dunbar Alumni Federation is to provide scholarships and other financial support to current students and graduates of Dunbar High School. We work in partnership with alumni classes, friends, and supporters to create better futures for Dunbar students. Our commitment extends beyond financial aid; we promote and support scholarship efforts, community activities, and other endeavors that enhance the educational experience of Dunbar students. Through collaboration, mentorship, and advocacy, we strive to ensure that every Dunbar student has the tools and opportunities they need to succeed.

Our vision is to empower and inspire current and future generations of Dunbar High School students and alumni. We envision a community where every student has access to quality education, where achievements are celebrated, and where opportunities for growth and success are abundant. By nurturing the legacy of Dunbar High School, we aim to create a supportive network that uplifts individuals and fosters their personal and professional development.

Our History

20+ Years Of Serving the Dunbar Community

Dunbar Senior High School in Washington, DC, has a storied history that began in 1870. It was the first public high school for African-Americans in the District of Columbia and the United States. Over the years, Dunbar High School has served as a beacon of excellence, nurturing generations of scholars, leaders, and achievers.

The Dunbar Alumni Federation was established in 2002 to continue the proud legacy of Dunbar High School. We serve as an alliance of alumni members, classes, friends, and supporters, working in partnership with the school's leadership and faculty. Through our collective efforts, we have made significant progress in mobilizing alumni across eight decades, providing scholarships, and supporting student and faculty development activities.


Today, Dunbar High School enters a new era with a state-of-the-art 21st-century campus, guided by a vision of smaller learning communities, professional development, academic interventions, school climate and culture, and parent engagement. As an organization, we are committed to supporting this vision and building bridges from the past to the future. We honor the legacy of Dunbar High School by fostering pride, unity, and continued excellence in education.
