ALUMNI: Please participate in the process and encourage all financial alumni to do so as well!

 

As we approach the beginning of a new calendar year, we are also nearing the time wherein the Dunbar Alumni Federation, Inc. (DAF) will elect officers and committee chairs for the expiring positions and time periods indicated below. Please let your voice be heard and actively participate in the nomination and election process. DAF is only as strong as its membership.

In accordance with the Amended and Restated Bylaws, Article IV, Section 4.01, the Annual Membership and Business Meeting, will be held on January 23. 2021, and accomplished virtually through Zoom. Details for joining this meeting by Zoom will be provided. In view of the continuing coronavirus pandemic and out of respect for social distancing, this year’s voting will be held totally by the mail-in (absentee) method and results reported to the membership at the January meeting. Nominations from the floor will not be possible this year.

In order to develop a slate of nominees for the January election and disseminate the information in a timely manner, the Nominating Committee must receive nominations no later than November 21, 2020. Eligibility to vote, nominate or compete for any office requires that you are an up-to-date, financial member of the DAF, i.e., a Lifetime Member or have paid your membership dues (Individual - $25.00 or Class- $50.00) effective at least through January of calendar year 2021. Membership dues may be paid online at https://daf-dc.org/membership or by mailing your check/money order to Dunbar Alumni Federation, Inc, PO Box 60714, Washington, DC 20039. The Officer positions that are open for nomination are:

  • Chairman (3 yr. term/2021-2024) – Incumbent: Carrie L. Thornhill ’61.
  • Secretary (3 yr. term/2021-2024) – Incumbent: Rosa A. Singletary ’93.

 

The Committee Chair positions that are open for nomination are: 

  • Audit Committee (2 yr. term/2021-2023) – Incumbent: Wylie Kynard ’92
  • Budget and Finance Committee (3 yr. term/2021-2024) – Incumbent: LuJuan Holliday-Gallmon ’88
  • Communications and Social Media Committee (3 yr. term/2021-2024) – No current incumbent.

 

A nomination must include name, graduation year, email address, and phone number of the nominator as well as the nominee. For your convenience, a nomination form is attached (click here). A nominee may only be considered for one position. If a candidate is nominated for multiple positions, the candidate will be required to select one preferred position for which to be considered. An incumbent may self-nominate.  Please note that all nominees will be requested to provide a qualifications statement to include why they wish to serve DAF in the position for which they have been nominated.
